SUMMER SKY RIBBONS - SHOPPING CENTRE SILKS
Brief To create an aerial show to celebrate the height of summer, the architecture of the shopping centre and the end of the youth arts festival in Kingston, with Katie's social enterprise, Circus Suburbia.
Rigging We rigged aerial hoops on top of silks, on three different levels to create a feeling of increased height and grandness. This allowed customers to view the show from different angles (an aerialist from above, below and on the same level) and from multiple viewing points (customer traffic disruption around the centre was kept to minimum).
Choreography With dance company EddDance, Katie developed a fun and playful Synchronised Swimming piece, with ground based dancers viewed from above with the lowest aerialist, just as when viewing a swimming pool.
Theming Blue and green colours were used in the silks and costumes to reflect the Bentall Centre branding and stained glass windows.
Press coverage in the Surrey Comet.
INDIAN WEDDING IN THAILAND
Bespoke Wedding Entertainment
for an Indian couple in Thailand
Brief To choreograph an aerial act for an outdoor rig, by the sea, taking part in the wedding ceremony.
Music We used a popular Bollywood love song, chosen by the couple.
Choreography The movements were flowing and statuesque, allowing the silks to billow in the wind and enhance the romantic ambience. Our act included us delivering floral wreaths to the bride and groom, who then, as part of the ceremony, tried to put the wreaths onto each other.
Theming Red silks and white sparkly full body catsuits were a striking image and matched the floral decorations.

RHS GARDEN WISLEY ARTS FESTIVAL 2014
Site Specific Aerial Entertainment
Circus Suburbia was asked to provide aerial entertainment for the first Arts Festival at RHS Garden Wisley in June. Starfiz performed three ambient silks sets per day next to the waterfall in the Glasshouse, with red silks to make a stunning visual impact in the large space, and commissioned a flower decoration for the top of the silks by Bee Smith.
ATRIUM - SUMMER REIGN AERIAL SHOWS
Brief To create an aerial show to celebrate the royal history of Kingston, the architecture of the shopping centre, the marketing campaign "Summer Reign" and the International Youth Arts Festival, with Katie's social enterprise, Circus Suburbia.
Rigging Following on from last year, for one of the shows we rigged our silks slightly higher and with fabric loops rather than aerial hoops at the top. For the other show we rigged our Spinning Silks on the top level, with silks on the lower two levels.
Choreography Our first show, Queens, opened with slow, regal positions in the silks loops, filling the length and space with flicks and swirls of silks. Once on the silks we continued using moves with a regal feel and where we could really use the fabric to billow, spin and flourish. We added some dramatic drops at the end.
Our second show, Summer Breeze, saw Katie and Leyla on Spinning Silks, using the billowing blue fabric and some feel good music to create a summery spectacle with drama. Two of the Circus Suburbia Youth Circus students worked on solo silks on the bottom two levels, spinning and mirroring our splits shapes, dancing with the silks to create a breezy, large visual impact.
Theming Queens was performed on red silks which really stood out in the white and blue space. Paired with red costumes the image was strong and regal. Bee Smith created beautiful crowns, ruffs and shoulders, and using tracks from Maleficent and Alice in Wonderland we created a magical and dramatic soundscape to celebrate the royal history in Kingston and the Bentall Centre marketing.
Summer Breeze was performed on red and blue silks, with blue costumes and flowers in our hair. The ambience was relaxed and summery.
Light and airy colour schemes and ambience to match the centre's architecture and marketing posters.
